With UK's Field Music on indefinite (if relatively ambiguous) hiatus, it's about time drummer David Brewis struck out on his own. As School of Language, he explores territory oft-trod by his old band, delving like a fuzzed-over Futurehead into straight-ahead post-rock and upbeat indie anthemry. While past shows have been largely solo affairs, he's goosed up his rooster for this go 'round in order to recreate the full-bodied tone of his Thrill Jockey debut, Sea from Shore. Now flanked by bassist Doug McCombs (Tortoise) and drummer Ryan Rapsys (Euphone), Brewis' falsetto yelps and stringy guitar lines reach into the art-rock ether with much greater breadth.
