For all of Hollywood's self-congratulatory boasts of progressivism, it's still pretty much a boys' club — AFI's list of the 100 best American movies didn't include a single film helmed by a female. The nationally touring Lunafest, however, bucks the trend by screening nine female-directed short films. Whether animation or live-action, documentary or fiction, they all coalesce around themes of gender and representation, and many of the award-winning shorts have screened at big-time festivals like Sundance, Berlin, and South by Southwest. Plus, portions of the proceeds from the tour are donated to the Breast Cancer Fund.
