Music: Rock/Pop Sightings w/ Emeralds and AkhKhazu

From a simple guitar/bass/drums framework, New York noise-rock trio Sightings have launched some of most alien-sounding no-wave assaults of the last decade. Through the Panama — produced by pop-metal cheerleader Andrew W.K., oddly enough — opens up their sound more than ever. The air-raid frequencies still pierce as harshly as anything Load labelmates like Yellow Swans have done, but now the low end can finally breathe. (You'll hear echoes of the Swans' mid-tempo lurch and This Heat's circular drum patterns, too.) Translating the cacophony live could be tough, but Sightings have already proven well enough that noise rock can straddle both the avant-garde and the accessible.
