Film The Memory Thief (2007)

Gil Kofman's debut feature film, The Memory Thief, offers the portrait of Lukas, a tollbooth worker whose life changes when a stranger tosses him a copy of Mein Kampf. He dives in, but soon, another driver — a Holocaust survivor — sees him reading Adolf Hitler and gives him a verbal beating. The event opens Lukas' eyes to the world of extreme suffering, but rather than taking a common course (say, becoming an activist or going back to school for social work), he strangely decides to adopt the Jews' misfortune as his own. Mark Webber delivers a compelling performance that captures the hapless man's descent into madness.
