The Newberry Library says…

Anyone who's ever seen the British Parliament in action knows that UK and US politics are entirely different animals. Indeed, the UK system has a more confrontational (but oh-so-eloquent) style, and the elections themselves are informed by different cultural values, histories, and political philosophies. Tonight, the Newberry hosts a discussion with Michael L. Mezey on the many differences between US and UK elections, including candidates' "likability factor" (apparently, the Brits don't vote based on who they'd rather have a beer with), the function of campaign advertising, the use of dirty tricks, and the media's role in the election season.
