Persistently concerned with architecture, place, and space, Goat Island Performance Group considers 20 years of collaboration by peeling away the histories of both a building and of the performers themselves. The Hagia Sophia in Istanbul serves as a metaphorical house for GIPG in The Lastmaker — the group's appropriately titled farewell work. Beginning with a dance that transcribes the fugal mathematics of architecture into movement, Lastmaker eventually hosts spiritual/historical variety show of acts about endings. The differences between construction and invention appear alongside those of occupancy and inhabitation.
