Last year, Charlie Salas-Humara (aka Panther) emerged with the fun (if uneven) Secret Lawns, a go-for-broke album of bedroom electro-twitters, hyperactive digital beats, and Prince-ly falsetto. For his Kill Rock Stars debut, 14 kt God, Panther has shifted to a more organic punk-funk groove, with new drummer Joe Kelly (formerly of math-y art-rockers 31Knots) adding much-needed swing. For all of the album's newfound charms, though, Panther is still best live; like a less-cornball Har Mar Superstar, Salas-Humara shakes and tics, spilling buckets of sweat.
