More Flavor: Benefit [SOLD OUT] RampFest 2008

Sold Out!

It's not often that vegetables are the guests of honor, so RampFest is a chance for the unsung star of the farmers' market to get some attention. Ramps are wild leeks — cousins of onions that grow leafy and green underground; like all green veggies, there are a million ways to prepare them, and your mom probably wishes you ate more of them. Today, local businesses like Goose Island and Bread & Wine serve up ramp appetizers while foodie experts sing the praises of the green cuisine. And in case you didn't know, Chicago got its name from the Native American word for ramps (chicagoua), so this vegetable's showcase is also a matter of local pride.
