Gene Siskel Film Center says…

Perhaps the only fashion designer to be immortalized by a collectable figurine, Karl Lagerfeld has become as iconic as the great luxury houses (Chanel, Fendi, Chloé) he has worked for. However, try as it might, Rodolphe Marconi's friendly documentary doesn't get very far behind the public Lagerfeld, with his instantly recognizable and frequently sent-up uniform of high-collared shirts, sunglasses, and white mane. Which is just how the designer prefers it — declaring at one point, "I don't want to be real in other people's minds. I want to be an apparition." Luckily for us, Lagerfeld is an amusing raconteur, so even if he doesn't reveal all, it's still a tantalizing glimpse behind the fan.
