Most playwrights would kill for the rave reviews that have been heaped upon Keith Huff's A Steady Rain. Happily, the only homicide here is in the gritty tale of two Chicago beat cops whose careers and personal lives are derailed by (what starts as) a routine distress call. The two characters carry the entire show via conversation and alternating monologue accounts; Huff's unsparing exploration of our darker moments — delivered in a coarse street argot — already has some calling him the next David Mamet.
