The Chicago Independent Radio Project (which includes many former staffers from community-radio stalwart WLUW) has been working tirelessly to obtain a license for a new, low-power FM station in Chicago, lobbying Congress to change the current FCC rules that prevent independent programming in urban areas. This weekend's fair is a benefit for CHIRP and a smorgasbord for music lovers, featuring rare-vinyl dealers, local labels like Minty Fresh and Touch & Go, indie publications, artists 'n crafters, and an expanded lineup of performances including melodic, dreamy rock by Speck Mountain, go-go dancing by the Revelettes, and a DJ set from members of Mahjongg.
