Someplace Else is a tender portrait of one of Chicago's hardest-working bluesmen, an impressionistic meditation on place, belonging, and passion. The odd but affecting film centers on director Kai-Duc Luong's own bout with "the blues" — a search for purpose and creative fulfillment after quitting his corporate job — while weaving in lyrical images of Chicago with footage of South Side musician Vance "Candylicking" Kelly and his Backstreet Blues Band. Tonight's screening includes a post-film Q&A with Luong and his co-director Avisheh Mohsenin.
