Art Jay Davis: New Work

Brooklyn-based artist Jay Davis returns to Chicago with new paintings on vinyl. His colorful, mystical pieces are complex and full of life, vibrating with recurring motifs of feathers, sunbeams, and foliage. In keeping with his cheeky and only indirectly suggestive titles (examples include Everything in This Place Scares the Shit out of Me and What, Voodoo), Davis' work offers a range of possible interpretations, neither confirming nor rejecting any specific idea. Michael Schmelling, who shows new photographs concurrently in gallery two, takes an unusual approach to the everyday snapshot.
