In part two of his exhibition at Tony Wight Gallery, Ken Fandell continues working with an image taken by NASA's Hubble telescope, fragmented and refracted across 12 square feet of wallpaper. Exemplifying the show's subtitle, Until It Doesn't Matter, this and other images deal with details of near-infinitesimal size — or significance, depending on your point of view. Aside from its flawless technical mastery and digital-chic intrigue, Fandell's work shows an ironic sense of humor, seeming to laugh nervously at its own cosmic breadth, while maintaining the sincerity and romance of his subjects at the same time.
