Music: Rock/Pop Born Ruffians w/ Cadence Weapon and Poison Arrows

If you're wondering how it would feel to have another band, whose yelping, effervescent pop mirrors your own, shoot to fame just before your debut hits, ask Born Ruffians. Over the last few years, the Toronto-based indie-pop trio has garnered praise for its jittery, hook-laden sound, but its new record, the excellent Red, Yellow, and Blue, has been largely overlooked in the wake of the similar-sounding (and much-hyped) Vampire Weekend. Born Ruffians drummer Steve Hamelin recently acknowledged the frequent comparisons, and vowed world domination (well, not the last part). The Ruffians return to Chicago tonight to prove they can rock just as hard as their brothers-in-tunefulness.
