Held on Earth Day in eight cities across the country, the Green Apple Festival kicks off the warm season with music and an ecologically sound purpose. The nationwide event's Midwest incarnation at the Lincoln Park Zoo features Derek Trucks playing rootsy, soulful slide guitar, Chicago Afrobeat Project with polyrhythms aplenty, singer/songwriter Me'Shell Ndegéocello dishing out bass-heavy soul, glitch-hop DJ Bassnectar, and Bears quarterback Kyle Orton MCing the affair. Alongside the live bands, organic snacks, and carbon-neutral merrymaking, educational kiosks provide tips for green living.
