Harmony is a funny thing; voices of different timbre combine like chemicals to form the single compound that reaches your ears. In the case of the New Pornographers, the resulting concoction is much like electrified honey. Perhaps it's the seemingly disparate elements they bring to the table — Neko Case's country-girl swagger, A.C. Newman's '60s beach-pop vibe, and Dan Bejar's indie slack — that kick the music into pop-bliss mode. As their latest offering, Challengers, proves, however, it's the moments where attitudes intersect that are most interesting.
