Justin Cooper, Installation view of Thread
Apr 22, 2008 – May 31, 2008
Tuesdays–Fridays (10am–6pm)
Saturdays (noon–6pm)
Directions: Just north of "UIC-Halsted" stop on CTA Blue Line
Note: The exhibition is bookended by two performances, one on Wednesday Apr 23 (6:30pm) and the other on Saturday May 31 (4:30pm).
Justin Cooper's installation is a combination of opposites: small-scale material creates large-scale sculpture, and conceptual performance art runs up against personal-space issues. Using tangles of humble thread, Cooper recreates the changing moods of a relationship, starting with intimacy and transitioning into that feeling you get when you've been a little too close for a little too long. Cooper's approach is abstract — you might not really "get" the love theme, even if you see it in person — but he excels at putting on a thought-provoking show.
