Music: Rock/Pop The Lemonheads

Fifteen years ago, It's a Shame About Ray proved that the Lemonheads had more to offer than Evan Dando's puppy-dog eyes and Tiger Beat sex appeal. Although he's ditched the band's original lineup, Dando recently decided to give the slacker-folk charmer of an album the victory lap that it deserves. All the fretting about grunge credibility now seems as dated as Doc Martens under a baby-doll dress, when you hear the mandolin-tinged melancholy of "Rudderless," Juliana Hatfield's giddy backing vocals on "Bit Part," the anthemic pop-punk riff on "Alison Is Starting to Happen," or any of the Lemonheads other wry, rootsy confections.
