Making good on Chicago's motto Urbs in Horto (City in a Garden), the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners offers 20-minute guided tours around Millennium Park's gorgeous Lurie Gardens. The tour leaves every 10 or 15 minutes, rain or shine. One of the Gardens' more impressive features is the shoulder hedge, a 15-foot-tall shrub that represents Chicago's "big shoulders." Internationally renowned landscape architect Kathryn Gustafson designed this garden, as well as others in London, Seattle, and Lebanon. For true green thumbs, the tour also includes tips to grow many of the same perennials in your own backyard.
