Chicago Imagism began with a group of artists from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago who first showed their work at the Hyde Park Art Center in the late '60s; it later evolved into a movement that was defined by its location. The artists mixed cubism with references to pop culture, especially comic-book illustration, and the resulting work is populated by vibrant, stylized characters that can trace at least some of their heritage back to surrealism. Featured artists in this 20-year survey include Roger Brown, Jim Nutt, Phil Hanson, and Gladys Nilsson.
