Tonight, the Chicago Film Archives relives the 1968 Democratic National Convention with three newly restored shorts filmed during those tumultuous three days. Shot on location by the illustrious Film Group — an alliance of Chicago filmmakers who documented the social unrest and political upheaval of the '60s and '70s — the rare 16mm films provide a fascinating firsthand look at the violent clashes between police and protesters in Grant Park and the city government's efforts to reassure the public. What Trees Do They Plant, a film in which the City of Chicago accuses the protesters of communism, also screens.
