Since his 1991 book Exporting Democracy: Fulfilling America's Destiny, Joshua Muravchik has been one of the loudest trumpeters of neoconservative values. A resident scholar at the conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute, the self-described "dyed-in-the-wool, true-believer neocon" is guided by his quasi-religious faith in the power of democracy to cure the world's ills. Even the quagmire in Iraq hasn't lessened his resolve: Muravchik insists that promoting American-style government abroad protects our national interests and helps ease international human-rights abuses. Tonight, the bellicose foreign-policy guru discusses why he believes that forcefully spreading democracy in the Middle East is the only solution to the war on terror.
