To say Joe Preston likes his music heavy is a major understatement. A veteran of some of the most brutal, devastating bands on the planet — including Sunn O))), Earth, and the Melvins — Preston has become synonymous with eardrum-crushing drone rock. His long-running solo project Thrones showcases his more minimalist, meditative side (relatively speaking, of course). With just a downtuned bass drenched in distortion and blistering feedback, the prodigiously bearded bassist creates a primordial, terrifying racket that's equal parts nuclear fallout and slow-motion explosion. Tonight, Preston brings his one-man band to Reggie's Rock Club, with Mr Russia and Rabid Rabbit opening.
