Reading Andy Austin: Rule 53

For over four decades, Andy Austin has enjoyed front-row seats at some of the most important trials in Chicago's criminal history. With just a pad and an array of pens, charcoals, and colored pencils, the sketch artist for ABC7 news has captured the mugs of mobsters, murderers, celebrities, and politicians — including Chicago Eight defendant Bobby Seale, serial killer John Wayne Gacy, Jr., Oprah Winfrey, and fund-raising wizard Tony Rezko. Today, Austin reads from her newly published book, Rule 53, named for the federal statute that prohibits cameras and recording devices in courtrooms. The collection brings together sketches, behind-the-scenes stories, and personal reflections from Austin's illustrious career.
