With the horn-driven greaser rock of Rocket from the Crypt and Drive Like Jehu's discordant emo, John Reis had a hand in two of the most beloved punk bands of their day. The oh-so-'90s descriptors might cause a few eyes to roll, but both still tower above the bands they inevitably inspired. With the Night Marchers, Reis has re-teamed with his Hot Snakes rhythm section for See You in Magic, a very worthy addition to his canon. Like the Snakes, the band perfectly splits the difference between Jehu's jagged riffing and Rocket's more classicist songcraft. If you still haven't quite gotten over losing Sleater-Kinney, Magic's darting guitars and locomotive drums should help ease your pain.
