Film Metropolis (1927)

While the gorgeous dystopia of Fritz Lang's classic Metropolis practically screams Weimar, the film retains an unsettling quality of being just outside of history. It depicts a world in which workers toil underground while hedonists rule from above, where a love story (and socio-religious commentary) blooms between undergrounder Maria and her upper-world savior, Freder.
