Reading Lily Koppel

In October 2003, writer Lily Koppel chanced upon an old trunk that had been tossed in the garbage. Inside, she found the diary of Florence Wolfson. Opening a window into the teeming sexuality and cultural abundance of jazz-age Manhattan, the journal became the inspiration for the fascinating The Red Leather Diary, which selects from the now 90-year-old's original musings, and recounts Koppel's own journey to find Wolfson. New York Times readers might recognize Koppel as a former contributor to the celebrity-gossip section "Boldface Names," where she splashed the Gray Lady with some much-needed snarky color; expect a little more weight at tonight's reading, but no less entertainment.
