Festa Pasta Vino
S Oakley Ave between 24th and 25th St
Most Chicagoans know the Sicilian-dominated Little Italy on Taylor Street, but there's another Italian 'hood, settled mostly by Tuscans, tucked away on an obscure stretch of Oakley Avenue in West Pilsen, and known as the "Heart of Italy." Its annual street festival, Festa Pasta Vino, is a meatballs-out block party complete with a working replica of the Trevi Fountain and performances by Frank Sinatra specialists. Of course, the main event is the food from local restaurants: lots of pasta, stellar baked clams, sausage, and cannoli. If the latter moves you most, sign up for Saturday's cannoli-eating contest — the winner receives a lifetime supply of the tubular confection.
