You may not have noticed, but the Art Institute's Department of Prints and Drawings has been running in stealth mode — its world-class collection was tucked away while new galleries were constructed. Now, the department reemerges, and, while the inaugural exhibition in the revamped space may have a stuffy-sounding title, it's infused with exceptional energy and ingenuity. The exhibition features a diverse array of international artists, including German heavy hitters Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke, comics legend Robert Crumb, and outsider artist Martín Ramírez — whose unusual visions combine traditional Mexican folk art with modern icons.
