Fans of Battles, Tortoise, and other mathy post-rock acts can find plenty to love in El Ten Eleven's gorgeous instrumental meditations. The LA-based duo — who use just a 1977 Carvin double-neck guitar/bass, a simple drum kit, and a rainbow-colored array of effects pedals — craft richly layered soundscapes that belie the spartan lineup. Although El Ten Eleven haven't yet garnered the mainstream praise they deserve, their sophisticated sound earned them a prominent spot on the Helvetica (2007) soundtrack — and scores of new fans in the process. Tonight, they hit up Schubas with Kuwahara and Presto Descanto opening.
