Film Pillow Talk (1959)

The first movie that paired Rock Hudson and Doris Day, Pillow Talk is a classic tale of a womanizer who gets his comeuppance. It's well-trod ground, but thanks to an Oscar-winning script, ravishing set, and the magic of Cinemascope, it's impossible not to get swept up in its grandeur. The scene in which Hudson's lothario feigns homosexuality to bypass Day's defenses is one for the ages — a closeted actor plays a straight character who pretends to be gay to win the girl. Some wince as Hudson swoons over Day's interior design ("Them colors and fabrics!"), but others hoot at the campiness. Either way, the film is a head trip on many levels.
