Onion City Experimental Film and Video Festival

This venerable film series, curated by Chicago Filmmakers, is perhaps the ultimate antidote to the summer blockbuster season and the mindless popcorn-munching it encourages. Onion City attracts some of the most innovative directors from across the country and around the world, and features non-narrative, impressionistic, and conceptual works from luminaries like Jon Jost, Ben Russell, and Shana Moulton. Tonight's program at the Siskel — a collection of shorts anchored by a new 35mm print of acclaimed Bay Area filmmaker Larry Jordan's 1972 animated classic Our Lady of the Sphere — kicks off three weeks of Onion City events that include screenings at UIC's Gallery 400, Chicago Filmmakers' home base, and Wicker Park's Nightingale theater.
