Performing Arts: Dance Lucky Plush Productions: The Sky Hangs Down Too Close

- The Sky Hangs Down Too Close
Bertolt Brecht's play In the Jungle of Cities — sans convoluted vendetta, lumber, and prostitutes — is an ideological wrestling match, with an exhortation to ignore motive and "judge impartially the technique of the contenders." Choreographer Peter Carpenter nails his reduction with style, blending au courant movement with meta-theatrical touches and cunning text. The superb cast features Lucky Plush regulars, newcomer Aaron Preusse, and Blue Man Tim Heck, all bravely game for Carpenter's challenging interpretation of the script. The show itself is installed and performed throughout The Galaxie, with rooms hosting both intimate, gestural scenes and visceral, combative dancing. Even with material this loaded and dark, however, Carpenter's sense of humor can't be kept fully out of frame.
Note: A benefit reception and silent auction follow the performance on Sat June 21.
