Jim Tansley's abstract paintings and drawings combine seemingly familiar lines with expanses of soft color to create arrangements that appear both carefully structured and completely random. Using musical titles to underscore the rhythmic nature of his brushstrokes, Tansley's dramatic, swirling compositions can be disorienting — many have a figurative feel, despite the fact that they do not portray recognizable objects.
