Her lengthy career has included stints with fairly disparate cult-rock faves like Live Skull and Come, but Thalia Zedek's best work may be as a solo artist. Her sparse, bluesy brand of bar rock owes just as much to Patti Smith as to Tom Waits, and with the newly-released Liars and Prayers — the singer's second full-length for Thrill Jockey — Zedek's soulful rasp proves even better with age. While Zedek and her backing band have a sound made for dark, smoky bars, tonight's show at the intimate, law-abiding Abbey Pub is the next best thing.
