Joined by husband and recent collaborator Matt Madden, underground comic artist Jessica Abel returns to Chicago to discuss a slew of recent releases. La Perdida (new in paperback) is the semi-autobiographical tale of a young woman "finding herself by getting lost" in Mexico City; Abel also discusses Life Sucks, a vampire story that trumps both the Buffy comics and the Twilight series with its use of supernatural realism. Finally, Abel and Madden take us through Drawing Words and Writing Pictures, their exhaustive new lesson in graphic storytelling. With luck, there may be time left to reminisce over Artbabe, Abel's microscopic, still-fresh look at post-collegiate, post-feminist, post-everything ennui that got us following her pen back in the early '90s.
