Film The Muppet Movie (1979)

One of the most certifiably adorable films of all time, Jim Henson's The Muppet Movie set the gold standard for G-rated filmmaking. The Spaceballs-meets-Sesame Street movie-within-a-movie follows the adventures of Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, and the rest of the gang as they make their way to Hollywood. Melding deft puppetry and kaleidoscopic musical numbers with winking pop-culture references, tongue-in-cheek wordplay, and sight gags galore, this live-action film is a kid flick that doesn't pander to children. Meta-film plot devices, killer cameos, and the frequent breaking of the fourth wall — at one point, Kermit admonishes the audience, "I hope you appreciate that I'm doing all my own stunts" — add to the sophisticated hilarity.
