Music: Rock/Pop Audible Architecture: Chicago Nightclubs at Noon feat. the Killer Whales

Although they're still small players in the city's indie jam-band scene — which counts Mahjongg and Cave as its torch-bearers — the Killer Whales are blazing their own path. The quartet ups the hippie-dippie ante by introducing an element that has hitherto been missing from more serious funkers: a careening joie de vivre. Yoking feather-light guitar upstrokes to wiry bass lines, wicked percussion grooves, and falsetto-vocal nonsense, the Whales' fresh, danceable summer-party jams recall the joys of shirtless skanking à la Operation Ivy. Today, take a load off as the bon vivants perform a special lunch-break set at the Pritzker Pavilion.
