Art Amanda Browder: Cyclone
Dynamic fiber and performance artist Amanda Browder spins into Chicago again — this time with a stuffed tornado in tow. Browder is known for large installations like Rapunzel, in which sewn fabric flowed out of her apartment window to the street below, and for contributions to local podcast Bad at Sports. Her pieces often explore subconscious spaces, but her whimsical perspective on these interior landscapes saves the work from pretension and keeps it broadly appealing. Cyclone bursts forth from the gallery as a massive, three-dimensional soft object that's alternately frightening and welcoming; while destructive as a weather event, Browder's twister is instead a creative force, looming above the viewer as a tower of vibrant color.
