The annual Silent Summer Film Festival resurrects the glory of film's Golden Age, screening classics from the silent era. Comedies, dramas, and sci-fi flicks are presented as they were originally — in a '20s-era movie palace with live photoplay organ accompaniment. Held at the magnificent Portage Theatre and hosted by the Silent Film Society of Chicago, the six-week festival includes the madcap comedy Speedy (1928), Fritz Lang's spooky classic Metropolis (1927), and the Buster Keaton vehicle Our Hospitality (1923). Opening and closing nights of the festival feature the West End Jazz Band's old-timey riffs, and other festivities include sing-alongs and a Buster Keaton Pork-Pie Hat contest.
