Marilyn Monroe in Bus Stop
Sunday July 20, 2008 (12:15pm)
Chicago Cultural Center
78 E Washington St

This afternoon, curator Alexander Sairally presents a slide lecture on the exhibition Life as a Legend: Marilyn Monroe. The traveling multimedia collection explores the cult of celebrity that enveloped Monroe's short life and the different ways her charisma, beauty, and sex appeal were interpreted. More than 300 works from 80 artists — including Andy Warhol's Marilyn prints, Tom Kelley's Red Velvet nudes, Bert Stern's "last sitting" portraits for Vogue, and others by Richard Avedon and Henri Cartier-Bresson — help visitors understand how a curvy blonde lady became an American icon.
