Prog rock never died — it just grew a tougher skin. Like a more meditative hybrid of Neurosis and Godflesh, Isis create expansive slabs of heavy-but-buoyant fuzz. Call it metal lite if you will, but Aaron Turner's clean vocals are too intense for even the most aggro hard-rock band out there, and there's a depressive quality to their music that draws as much from stoner-metal band Sleep as it does from Thrill Jockey artists. Tonight, the LA-based act hits up Subby T's before headlining tomorrow's Wicker Park Fest. Brooklyn bass heads Dub Trio open.
