Some garage rockers pride themselves on being primitives, but still succumb to slick production or lose track of their roots via knee-jerk forays into experimentation. But not Chicago's CoCoComa — these primal speed freaks stick to their guns and get a lot of mileage from a guitar-drums-Farfisa setup. Last year's debut full length was a treble-happy rush: no recycled blues riffs, no whitewashed soul, just ten short blasts of Sonics-inspired garage punk. The band hews to the Oblivians-built template, but it's exactly that kind of if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it discipline that keeps your foot stomping.
