Mannequin Men's swaggering stomp-alongs bring to mind Midwestern brethren like Naked Raygun and MC5. Whether snottily preening or unleashing hooky riffs, frontman Kevin Richard sounds simultaneously hungry and battle-weary, as his band backs him up with an equally eager racket. Tonight, the Chi-town crew meets up with riffalicious rockers Monotonix in the local incarnation of one-time LA institution the F Yeah Fest. Psychedelic buzz-bearers Crystal Antlers open; recently anointed by Pitchfork, the Cali-based quintet takes a free-form orchestral approach, layering sizzling rockers with trippy, space-obsessed interludes.
