- As a point of pride, dance-music fans happily leave the retro fetishism to the rock dudes, preferring to think of it as anti-nostalgic progressivism. But sometimes, in the case of a truly groundbreaking artist, it's impossible not to get all fanatical — and Frankie Knuckles is one of those rare pioneers who inspire hero worship. Tonight, the chief architect of Chicago house spins a free set before jetting off to Italy. Knuckles hasn't been lost on memory lane, either. His remix of Hercules and Love Affair's disco jam of the year, "Blind," has him firing on all four-on-the-floor cylinders; it's Paradise Garage disco twisted into mechanized Warehouse bliss. – Stephen Gossett
