Music: Electronic wzt hearts w/ Thank You and Gilgamesh

In Indieland, the "Baltimore sound" usually refers to either Dan Deacon's Wham City pep rallies or Spank Rock's seemingly ironic booty rap. Both have their selling points, but if you're looking for a more menacing strand of Charm City's musical DNA, wzt hearts' dizzy psych is a good point of entry. "Noise" in the Black Dice sense, their mix of laptop hiccups, electronic mixers, and deliberate drumming doesn't pummel you into submission so much as lull you into a happy stupor. Threads Rope Spell Making Your Bones (2007) is a primo This Heat/Gang Gang Dance rhythm-and-hiss concoction. Check out "Spells," with its ghostly buried-in-the-mix vocals snarling like a feral dog with a muzzled mouth.
