It may be a country founded by those who arrived from elsewhere, but the United States arguably has a long way to go when it comes to embracing its immigrant communities. At Chicago's National Museum of Mexican Art, more than 70 artists — all of whom immigrated to the US from a variety of countries — are brought together by curator Cesáreo Moreno to launch the first exhibition in the museum's three-year program of immigration-related events. A Declaration of Immigration is a response to the blame game holding new immigrants responsible for national economic problems, using personal stories and direct political commentary to tackle the thorny issue.
