Performing Arts: Dance Dance Intersections: 3 Currents
Improvisation can leave an unsure dancer frozen in existential crisis or wandering through solipsistic patterns. But those who have committed years to solo practice can approach the cutting edge of dance performance, free to discover new territory in the moment and boldly experiment with style and content. Chicago has more than its share of such able practitioners, and Asimina Chremos, Julia Mayer, and Molly Shanahan are three notable representatives. Tonight, each enters the space with carte blanche to explore and charge it with meaning; the unspoken dialogue between the works speaks to the future of the form. A brief moderated discussion follows the performance.
Note: The program repeats on August 21 in Harold Washington Library's Cindy Pritzker Auditorium, 400 S State Street, at 12:15pm.
