Music: Rock/Pop Battles

Steeped in complex rhythms and esoteric asides, Battles are destined to strike the world as difficult. Featuring an all-star lineup of math-rock vets (including John Stanier of Helmet and Ian Williams of Don Caballero), their biggest hit is a seven-minute jam with distorted vocals. But, against all odds, the group's debut album, Mirrored, is simultaneously accessible and experimental, and, despite its length, "Atlas" proves to be a surprisingly catchy single. Tonight, the band brings its tight live act (sick drum set in tow) to Double Door for another round of hard-rock-inspired dance punk, tinged prog rock.
